  • Establish a qualifying direct deposit to the new account within 60 days of opening. (Credit card cash advance transfers, transfers from one account to another or deposits made at a branch or ATM do not qualify as Qualifying Direct Deposits.)
  • Make at least ten purchases with a PNC Bank® Visa Debit Card within 60 days of opening.

Restrictions

  • New account will not be eligible for offer if any signer has signing authority on an existing PNC Bank consumer checking account or has closed an account within the past 90 days, or has been paid a promotional premium in the past 12 months.
  • Offer only available to residents of AL, DC, DE, FL, GA, IL, IN, KY, MD, MI, MO, NC, NJ, NY, OH, PA, SC, VA, WI, and WV.
  • There is a $25 early termination fee if the account is closed within six months of opening.

Virtual Wallet with Performance Spend has no monthly service charge with qualifying direct deposit, bonus rewards when PNC Visa® Credit Card is linked to account, and higher returns on balances in Growth Account.
  • To earn $300, open a new "Virtual Wallet with Performance Select" with a total amount of all qualifying direct deposits of at least $5k. Virtual Wallet with Performance Select has no monthly service charge with qualifying direct deposit, bonus rewards when PNC Visa® Credit Card is linked to account, higher returns on balances in Growth Account, and free transactions at PNC and non-PNC ATMs.

Monthly Fees Associated With Virtual Wallet

Monthly service charges (Virtual Wallet, $7; Virtual Wallet Performance Spend, $15; Virtual Wallet Performance Select, $25) will be waived on the Virtual Wallet accounts if average balance requirements or direct deposit requirements are met. Complete fee and benefit details are listed on PNC’s Virtual Wallet Overview page.

Confirmation of Past Bonus Payouts

Have you received a bonus with any previous PNC promotions? Has the bank refused to pay? Or was the bonus paid only after you called and complained? Please take my poll on PNC Bank promotions history. I will update the results throughout the coming week.

As of November 10, 2016,

37% reported they received the PNC checking account bonus, with no call required.

44% reported that no bonus was paid because of an error on their part.

I have a few questions..Can this be funded with a credit card? If yes, then what's the max funding, and is it treated as purchase or cash advance? What credit card?

I called the bank today and talked with the rep to open a checking account and was told the promo was not valid in Michigan.  I gave her the code in your column and she said it was not valid.

I wonder why a bank is pushing so hard for deposits.  Obviously they need to build their deposit book.  I would stay away from deals like these.

Bank cannot do what their insurer will not permit.  Second, building a "deposit book" is easy given the low rates out there especially through a checking account.  Why stay away...facts are always better than opinions

The offer has been extended to 11/11/2016 with a new code EDGF1016 which does not apply to the hassle-free checking.

I closed my last Key Bank account last November 30th (which I could have done so without penalty earlier).

I think some of the branches of KeyBank from First Niagara Bank are actually from HSBC in parts of NY and maybe PA (there used to be HSBC in Philadelphia, PA).

Ken, you need to edit your post, as the offer terms clearly state the following: Receive $300 when you open a Key Express (this is the basic banking account in New York), Key Advantage, Key Privilege, or Key Privilege Select Checking Account between 10/5/2016 and 11/11/2016. Hassle-free checking is NOT ELIGIBLE FOR $300 BONUS.

their direct deposit requirement is pretty limiting, can't be done from a bank account transfer.

Something is messed up with your post, Ken.  The logo and title say KeyBank, but all the references in the text are to PNC Bank.

I was thinking the same thing.  The content talks about PNC bank, but the title says Key Bank? Are they the same institution?
