Security First Credit Union (TX) Has Competitive Long-Term CDs
In the past few months, the long-term CDs offered by Security First Credit Union (Security First) have been included in the bi-weekly CD Rates Summary. Security First CDs have tiered APYs based on deposit levels of $500, $1k, $25k, $50k and $100k. While all the CDs currently have good rates, the most competitive rates are offered on the 24-, 37-, 48- and 60-month ($100k minimum deposit).
All Security First CDs are also available as IRA CDs (Traditional, Roth, CESA), earning the same tiered APYs based on the same minimum deposit levels.
As stated in the Truth-in-Savings disclosure, the Early Withdrawal Penalty reads as follows:
For all accounts, the amount of the early withdrawal penalty for your account is 50% of the dividends that would have been earned between the date of early withdrawal and the maturity date, or $25.00, whichever is greater.
Availability
Headquartered in Edinburg, Texas, Security First Credit Union’s field of membership (FOM) is residency-based, with those who live, work, worship, or attend school in the Texas Rio Grande Valley eligible to join.
Joining Security First Credit Union and/or opening a CD can be done at any of 13 full-service Texas branches, located in Brownsville (3), Edinburg, Harlingen, McAllen (2), Mission, Pharr (2), San Benito, and Weslaco (2).

Founded in 1947 as the Hildago Federal Credit Union, the original FOM was exclusive to the employees of the Federal Goverment who resided in the Rio Grande Valley; it remained that way for 29 years. In the following decades with assets increasing and loan demand growing, membership was expanded to include State Employees in Hildago and Starr Counties. In 2000, after an expansion into Cameron County and the acquisition of two other credit unions, Hildago Federal Credit Union rebranded as Service First Credit Union.
