3.51% Reward Checking Account at Timberland Bank in Washington State

Timberland Bank is offering a reward checking account called Free Smart Money Checking. It pays 3.51% APY on balances up to $25,000 (1.01% for above) and refunds ATM fees nationwide if the following monthly requirements are met:
  • 10 debit card purchases
  • access online banking
  • receive statements by email
If these are not met, the rate falls to 0.25%. There are no minimum balance requirements and no monthly service charges.

It appears that a branch visit is required to open an account. Branches are located in several Washington State cities including Auburn, Olympia, Tacoma, Toledo, Silverdale, Ocean Shores and Elma.

The bank has been FDIC insured since 1935 (FDIC Certificate # 28453).

According to the website the APY is current as of 3/6/2008. There doesn't seem to be any current rate information.
