For those of you who hate to commit, Y-12 Federal Credit Union (Y-12 FCU) has added a 65-day Share Certificate (2.00% APY) to its product line. The minimum opening deposit is $500, with no balance cap.
While Y-12 FCU’s other Share Certificates have tiered APY levels based on deposit balances, the 65-day Share Certificate’s 2.00% APY applies to all balance levels.
The 65-day Share Certificate is also available as an IRA (Traditional and Roth), earning the same APY with the same funding requirements.
Y-12 FCU offers bonus points on its Share Certificates through its Member Rewards program. The requirements for each level of the Member Rewards program are based on a variety of combinations of checking account relationship, debit card activity, direct deposit, payroll deductions, and deposit and loan balances.
- Pinnacle – additional 20 basis points
- Premium – additional 15 basis points
- Preferred – additional 10 basis points
According to CSR, the Early Withdrawal Penalty is all the dividends earned, and the Share Certificate will be closed upon withdrawal.
Headquartered in Oak Ridge, Y-12 Federal Credit Union membership is residency based, with individuals who live, work, worship, or attend school in Anderson, Blount, Campbell, Knox, Loudon, Roane, Sevier, and Union Counties, Tennessee, eligible to join.
Immediate family members of current Y-12 FCU members also qualify for membership.
Joining Y-12 FCU can be done online, but opening a CD must be done in-person at any of 14 Tennessee branches located in Clinton (2), Harriman, Jacksboro, Knoxville (4), La Follette, Maryville (2), Oak Ridge, Powell, and Sevierville.

Founded in 1950, Y-12 Federal Credit Union (NCUA Certificate # 6775) was originally established by employees of the Y-12 Plant in Oak Ridge, one of two facilities that enriched the uranium for the Manhattan Project. The Credit Union’s charter to was changed to a community-based charter, helping to make Y-12 Federal Credit Union the 6th largest credit union in Tennessee, with over 97,000 members and assets in excess of $837 Million.
