8% 8-Month CD at a Multi-State CU ($8K Max)

Chartway Federal Credit Union is offering a 8% APY 8-month share certificate. The maximum deposit is $8K and the minimum is $500. This special certificate requires that a new member be referred by an existing Chartway member. Existing Chartway members are eligible for this offer when they refer a new member who joins AND opens either: 1) prime shares and an 8% certificate or 2) prime shares and checking with a direct deposit of $500+ per month. Limit of 3 certificates per household - one per referral.

The prime share account is just the credit union's basic savings account which establishes membership. The minimum initial deposit is $5.

You can potentially open 3 of these 8% CDs at $8K each if you can find 2 or 3 people to refer. That would be $24K and would result in about $400 over what you could earn with a top CD somewhere else.

5.50% 9-Month CD with No Strings

Chartway is also offering a 5.50% APY 9-month share certiticate with a $15K minimum. This CD doesn't have any referral requirements. You can get this CD at 5.75% APY with a Preferred Plus, Elite 50 Plus or Premier Checking account. These checking accounts have a minimum balance requirement to avoid monthly fees.

The field of membership includes those who live, work, worship or go to school in a defined geographic area served by the credit union's Virginia, Florida, Rhode Island and Texas branches.

Chartway is NCUA insured with $1.1 billion in assets and 156K members.

Hi, guys.
Does anyone know how their referral works? The ad on the Chartway's website suggests that a member can refer a friend. However, the on-line application form offers only 3 choices: (1) A member of my immediate family is currently a Chartway member; (2)I am, or a member of my family is currently a student at ... and (3)A member of my family is currently working for ... Any ideas? Tried to call them but hang up after waiting for 20 min :(

Also, could I get the referal from somebody? If so, please email me

I was able to reach Chartway by emailing them through their contact page. A CSR responded promptly, but didn't really answer my question about the referral process.

Based on their rules, it seemed that your referral only has to be eligible to join. I don't know if this additional information section of the application is related to your referral or field-of-membership.

I've created a new post to try to help people find referrals.

I'm not eligible to join so I can't help directly.

Good luck!

Hi All,
Chartway is a disaster! Spoke to Courtney and Stephen on July 6'TH. Introduced myself as referal from friend. Given ok and application ws to be mailed to me that day. On July 19'TH. Called because no application was received. Left 3 voice mails. No response. Called on July 21 and spoke to CSR. The CSR told me that Courtney didn't know what she was talking about. ONLY FAMILY MEMBERS ARE OK FOR REFERRAL and since Courtney didn't qualify me they didn't send the application. They told me to take my business elsewhere. Amazing!!!!!!!
They don't seem to know what they are doing.
Wanted to give everyone a heads-up.
Happy Friday All
