5.75% 5-Month CD at a California CU - and $100 Checking Bonus (Travis).

Travis Credit Union
Travis Credit Union is offering a special 5.75% APY 5-month certificate. The minimum deposit is $10,000. It requires that you have direct deposit of $500 or more. This special is only available at four of the credit union's branches (see below).

In addition to the CD, there's a $100 gift card bonus for opening a new checking account with direct deposit. I was told that it can be done in combination with the CD. Their Free Checking should qualify for the bonus. There's a $50 minimum opening deposit.

The last day for these specials is this Saturday (Dec 8, 2007).

These specials don't seem to be listed at the credit union's website. A reader mentioned in the comments seeing this advertised in the Brentwood Press newspaper. I just called their toll-free members service number (800-877-8328) for additional details.

These specials are only available at the following branches: Brentwood Branch 3111-N Balbout Rd, Antioch Branch 5819 Lone Tree Way, Concord Branch 1257 Willow Pass Rd, and Clayton Valley Branch 5442 Ygnacio Valley Rd.

Membership is open to anyone who lives, works, worships or attends school in the following counties: Alameda, Colusa, Contra Costa, Merced, Napa, Placer, Sacramento, San Joaquin, Solano, Sonoma, Stanislaus and Yolo. Please refer to their membership page for the full details. Membership requires a $5 fee and a minimum $5 deposit into a savings account. The $5 fee is waived when you join online.

The credit union is federally insured by the NCUA (Charter # 68429). It's a large credit union with $1.647 billion in assets and 151,923 members.

Thanks to the reader who mentioned this promotion in the finding-the-best-deals post.

Just had an idea. Patelco requires that "new money" be out of Patelco for at least three months to qualify for the special rates. So, move it to this CU for five months, then plop it back into Patelco. There are so many ways to game the system it's funny.
