5.01% 15-Month / 5.15% 60-Month CD at a North Carolina CU - easy membership (Coastal).

Coastal FCU continues to list promotional 15 and 7 month certificates. However, the rates have gone down since my September post, but they're still competitive. The 15-month special certificate has a yield of 5.01% APY. The 7-month certificate's yield is 4.80% APY. The minimum deposit is $2,500.

The credit union also has some other competitive deposit rates listed at its rate table including a 5.15% APY 5-year CD and a 5% APY Health Savings Account (HSA). The 5.15% APY on the 60-month CD requires a minimum deposit or $100K. A yield of 5% APY is available for a minimum deposit of $500. This is also available as an IRA certificate.

Credit union membership is open to members of the North Carolina Consumers Council. Membership in this association appears to be open to anyone. The minimum cost to join is $36. You can also be eligible to join the credit union via other companies and associations and via immediate family. Please see the credit union's eligibility page for more details. Credit union membership requires a minimum $25 deposit into the regular savings account.

Branches are located in several North Carolina cities including Raleigh, Durham and Charlotte. The credit union is federally insured by the NCUA (Charter # 18297). It's a large credit union with $1.8 billion in assets and 167,687 members.
