Mountain America Credit Union has increased the bonus amount of its Facebook checking account promotion. In mid October a reader mentioned a $100 checking incentive. It's now $125. They want you to "like" their Facebook page before they will show you the flyer. If you don't have a Facebook account, here's the direct link to the checking promo flyer (PDF). The flyer provides the following instructions:
Bring this coupon to any branch. Open your new checking account, set up free direct deposit and free eStatements to get your $125 bonus.
There is no expiration date on the flyer. The small print just says it's a limited time offer. This flyer is available Facebook and on MACU's website as of the morning of 11/07/2011.
Checking Account Options
They do offer a free checking account called, MyFree Checking. There is a $2 fee if you want paper statements instead of e-statements. The other checking account is called MyStyle Checking, and it does have potential monthly fees. Some of the fee details are described in the MyStyle Checking FAQ. This account does provide some nice perks, but you have to make sure you can avoid the fees.
Credit Union Membership
Credit union membership is open to members of the American Consumer Council. Council membership costs $12, and is open to anyone. This council is listed in the credit union's SEG Affiliated Associations page. For more ways to qualify for membership, please refer to the credit union's Become a Member page. In my recent email to this credit union, I mentioned that I was interested in becoming a member via this council. Here's the reply I received:
We would be happy to take a membership application for you. If you have a branch near you please visit them with your picture ID. They will need $25.00 to get the account open and going. If you plan on opening a checking account that will require a minimum of $100.00.
If you are not near a branch location you can apply online or call us at 1-800-748-4302.
