Deal Summary: Ultimate Cash Checking, 2.78% APY on qualifying balances up to $25k. Ultimate Savings, 0.75% APY on qualifying balances up to $25k.

Availability: Residents of Chambers and Jefferson Counties, Texas.

At the beginning of the year, CommonCents Credit Union (CCCU) stopped offering Kasasa brand products, replacing them with proprietary rewards checking (RCA) and rewards savings accounts. The only difference between the old Kasasa Cash account and new Ultimate Cash Checking account is the name, with the qualifying balance caps and qualification requirements remaining unchanged. The Ultimate Cash Checking currently earns 2.78% APY on qualifying balances up to $25k. Qualifying balances greater than $25k earn 0.20% APY.

The monthly qualification requirements include,

  • At least 12 debit card purchases ($10 minimum each)
  • At least one automatic payment, ACH debit or credit, or Remote Deposit
  • Be enrolled in and receive e-Statements
  • Be enrolled in and log into Online Banking

The Ultimate Cash Checking account has no minimum balance requirement, no monthly service fee, and no minimum opening deposit requirement. Unlimited check writing is available and a fee-free Mastercard debit card will be issued after account opening. Unlimited nationwide ATM fees will be reimbursed, if all qualifying requirements are met. (An ATM receipt must be presented for reimbursement of an individual ATM fee of $5.00 or higher.) There is a limit of one Ultimate Cash Checking account per Social Security number.

Ultimate Savings

The Ultimate Savings account currently earns 0.75% APY on qualifying balances up to $25k; qualifying balances over $25k earn 0.20% APY.

Ultimate Cash Checking/Ultimate Cash Back earned rewards are automatically transferred into an Ultimate Savings account each statement cycle. The Ultimate Savings account has no minimum balance requirement or monthly service fee, or minimum opening deposit requirement. There is a limit of one Ultimate Savings account per Social Security number.

Annual Earnings of Combined Ultimate Cash Checking/Ultimate Savings

The potential combined annual earnings of an Ultimate Cash Checking account (2.78% APY/$25k) and an Ultimate Savings account (0.75% APY/$25k) is approximately $880 (1.75% APY/$50k), which is an unusually high rate for an RCA/Saver combo.

Ultimate Cash Back

CCCU’s Ultimate Cash Back account currently earns 2.25% cash back on debit card purchases (minimum $10 each) up to $300 in monthly purchases. If you are planning on maintaining a balance of less than $3,200, the Ultimate Cash Back account would probably be a better deal than the Ultimate Cash Checking account, as the maximum annual earnings for the Ultimate Cash Back account is $90 ($7.50 per month).

The CommonCents rebrand occurred in 2016, “to keep up with the times and help stay relevant in our ever-changing economy and environment.”
