Dupaco Community Credit Union Brings Back Competitive 25-Month CD Special
Iowa-based Dupaco Community Credit Union (Dupaco) has brought back its 25-month Jumbo Share Certificate Special after an absence of more than a year. Currently earning 1.05% APY, the Jumbo Share Certificate Special requires a $100k minimum opening deposit. The non-Jumbo version earns 0.95% APY and requires a $5k minimum opening deposit.
Both Specials are available as IRA Certificates Specials (Traditional and Roth), earning the same APYs with the same deposit requirements.
I wrote about Dupaco’s 15-month Jumbo Share Certificate Special and the 15-month Share Certificate Special in August. Both are still available, earning the same APYs (0.85% and 0.75%) as they did five months ago.
According to CSR, the Early Withdrawal Penalty for any Share Certificate with a term longer than 12 months is six months interest on the amount being withdrawn, with partial withdrawals allowed.
The fine print on the Certificate Specials page reads,
Dividends will be compounded semi-annually and will be credited to the account semi-annually. Dividends on your account will be credited by adding the dividends to the principle.
According to CSR, funding a Certificate Special can be done by ACH, wire transfer, check, or through internal transfer. Dupaco is a member of the CO-OP Shared Branch network, making a transfer of funds relatively easy. Funding can also be done by credit/debit card, but there is a limit of $1k.
Maturing funds can be distributed by check to the address on file, by wire transfer, or transferred into a Dupaco savings account.
Availability
Headquartered in Dubuque, Iowa, Dupaco Community Credit Union’s field of membership (FOM) is community-based, with individuals who live or work anywhere in Iowa, or in the Illinois counties of Carroll, Jo Daviess, Stephenson, Rock Island, or Whiteside, or in the Wisconsin counties of Crawford, Dane, Grant, Green, Iowa, Lafayette, Richland, or Sauk.
Immediate family members of current Dupaco members are also eligible to join. Immediate family is defined as parents, grandparents, children, grandchildren, sisters, brothers, in-laws, foster children, adopted children of a current member and such relatives of a deceased member.
Dupaco’s online membership application is actually a two-part process.
First, you'll choose the account(s) you want to open and tell us about you. Then we'll do a little work on our end and get back to you within one business day. We'll give you instructions for finishing your application at that time.
Dupaco also has 18 full-service Iowa branches located in Asbury, Carroll, Cedar Falls, Cedar Rapids (3), Dubuque (6), Dyersville, Manchester, Marion, Peosta, and Waterloo (2). Dupaco also has branch locations in Galena, Illinois and Platteville, Wisconsin
Your Dupaco membership begins with a Share Savings account. An opening deposit of $25 or more gives you a “share” of ownership in the credit union.
Dupaco participates in both the CO-OP Shared Branch and ATM networks. The first eight transactions each month at non-Dupaco-owned ATMs are fee-free, with each subsequent transaction subject to a 50¢ charge.

Dupaco Community Credit Union is currently the third largest credit union in Iowa and the 143rd largest credit union in the country, with nearly 144,000 members and assets in excess of $2.6 billion. Established in 1948 as the Dupaco Employees Credit Union, the original membership included the employees of the Dubuque Packing Company, exclusively. The credit union’s name is derived from the first two letters of each word in Dubuque Packing Company’s name. (Interesting fact – in 1958, Dupaco became the first Iowa credit union to build its own office building.) The FOM began to expand in 1987 and by 2016, the entire state of Iowa, along with portions of Wisconsin and Illinois, were included.
in 2018, Dupaco celebrated its 70th anniversary in a unique fashion. While the traditional 70th anniversary symbols are platinum and diamonds, Dupaco chose to partner with,
7Hills Brewing Co. (Dubuque) to craft Brewpaco, a small-batch seasonal Belgian Whitbier.
