Harvest Community Bank (NJ) Offers Highly Competitive 12-Month CD

Harvest Community Bank (NJ) recently raised the rate on its 12-month CD to 1.21% APY. A $500 minimum deposit is required to open this 12-month CD, with no maximum balance cap. According to a very helpful CSR, the Early Withdrawal Penalty is a substantial 6 months interest.

Harvest Community Bank offers a variety of other CDs, ranging in length from 3 months to 60 months. While none are as competitive as the 12-month CD, the 48-month CD (1.61% APY) and 60-month CD (1.82% APY) are notable.

Harvest Community Bank's CDs are only available to residents of New Jersey and an in-person visit to any of the four branches located in Pennsville (headquarters), Elmer, Pinesgrove, and Salem, is required to open an account. After opening an account, customers are eligible for the bank's Internet Banking Services program to help manage accounts. Harvest Community Bank is located in the southwestern portion of the state and, as the crow flies, is closer to Delaware than any other state.

Harvest Community Bank is a young bank (founded in 2000) and Salem County’s first locally owned, independent commercial bank in more than 30 years. Harvest Community Bank serves that part of New Jersey which often seems orphaned: it’s not the NYC metropolitan area, it’s not the Jersey Shore, and it’s not the Philadelphia metropolitan area.

In 2012, the entire "back office" staff at Harvest Community Bank were the recipients of the Roland A. Turmol, Sr. Community Service Award. This honor is bestowed every year by The Women of Salem County, an online community and magazine developed to promote Salem County.

How the Rate Compares

When compared to other 12-month CDs tracked by DepositAccounts.com, with a $500 or less minimum deposit, and available to New Jersey residents, Harvest Community Bank's 12-month CD is clearly competitive:

Interest Rate CD Length Institution
1.21% APY 12-month CD Harvest Community Bank
1.10% APY 12-month CD Lincoln Park Savings Bank
1.05% APY 12-month CD GE Capital Bank

The above rates are accurate as of 9/2/2014.

Note to Ken:

I refuse to read about any more monotonous 1% & 2% "CD deals".  Please write only about short-term (2 years or less) offers of 2.5% or greater and longer term offers of minimum 3%.  Thanks.

What I asked for, true, - so thank you.  But 10 years?   It would take 5% for me to bite on such a lengthy term.

My "sweet spot" now is 3%/5 year/1 year EWP.  If PenFed comes through again at the end of the year, I'm in.
