While banks may be quick to respond to rate environment changes, many credit unions seem to take a more measured approach, almost seeming to lag in their response time. This lag-time can provide a window of opportunity, allowing you to lock into a very competitive CD rate before the credit union eventually lowers its rates.

According to CSR, the Early Withdrawal Penalty is 12 months of interest, but only early closures are permitted – no partial withdrawals.

Availability

Headquartered in Kansas City, Missouri, the aptly-named Kansas City Credit Union’s field of membership (FOM) is primarily residency-based, with individuals who live, work, or worship in the Missouri counties of Clay or Jackson, eligible to join.

Employees of the Kansas City (MO) government, Truman Medical Centers, KCATA The Metro, AB May, and Prier Products also qualify for membership.

Family members of active KCCU members “in good standing” are welcome to apply.

Joining KCCU and/or opening a CD can be done at any of three full-service Missouri branches located in Gladstone and Kansas City (2).

It takes a $25 “ownership share” to open and you begin to earn dividends (interest) on balances over $100.

KCCU members have access to more than 30,000 surcharge-free ATMs through participation in the CO-OP ATM networks.

Hey folks, this is a $35 Million asset CU. Very small. I doubt they are really aware of this very high special rate and will probably cancel the offer when they get a few million is new deposits. Probably best to move along to another special.

Given this CU's extremely restricted membership qualifications, probably most readers here "moved along" on the offer well before your present recommendation, - which is why (until now) there were no posts in regards to it.
