Listerhill Credit Union (AL) Unveils New Money Market Account
At the beginning of the month, Listerhill Credit Union (Listerhill CU) unveiled its new Money Market, which has tiered APYs based on four deposit levels. The top rate is a competitive 2.02% APY on balances of $100k and above, and is guaranteed through April 30, 2020.

The rates for balances below $100k are not remarkable at all.
- 0.45% – balances up to $10k
- 1.00% – balances between $10k and $49,999
- 1.46% – balances between $50k and $99,999
According to CSR, there is no checking writing available, but unlimited withdrawals can be made using Listerhill CU’s Smart ATMs. (No ATM/debit card is required to use a Smart ATM: you sign in to your accounts using your member number and Social Security number.) There is no minimum opening deposit amount, but balances below $2.5k will be charged a $15 monthly low balance fee. If more than the standard six pre-authorized, automatic, or telephone transfers occur within a month, a $15 fee will apply for each transactions and the account may be closed.
Availability
Headquartered in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, Listerhill Credit Union’s field of membership (FOM) is primarily residency-based, with individuals who live, work, worship, or attend school in the Alabama counties of Colbert, Cullman, Fayette, Franklin, Lamar, Lauderdale, Lawrence, Limestone, Marion, Morgan, Walker, or Winston, or Maury County, Tennessee, eligible for membership.
Employees of more than 250 Select Employee Groups (listed on the online application), including 3M Company and Jimmy Dean Foods, also qualify for membership.
Family members of currently Listerhill CU members are welcome to apply.
Joining Listerhill CU and/or opening a Money Market can be done online, or in-person at the any of the 16 Alabama branches, located in Cullman, Double Springs, Florence (4), Haleyville, Hamilton, Killen, Muscle Shoals (3), Rogersville, Russellville, Sheffield, and Winfield. There’s also a single Tennessee branch located in Columbia.
The $5 used to open your Share Savings Account remains in your account as your share into the credit union, allowing a vote at our annual meeting.
Listerhill CU participates in the CO-OP Shared Branch network, giving its members access to more than 5,000 shared branches across the country.

Founded in 1952, Listerhill Credit Union is currently the seventh largest credit union in Alabama, with more than 93,000 members and assets in excess of $865 million. The credit union is named after United States Senator Lister Hill. Along with Richard Reynolds (Reynolds Metals), Hill persuaded Congress in 1937 that “it was in the best interest of the nation to being producing military airplanes.” Reynolds had traveled to Europe looking for new sources of aluminum for his company and learned through his German business contacts of the arsenal that Hitler was amassing.
The local Reynolds plant was created along with a new community, aptly named Listerhill, and supplied the nation with during World War II from 1942-45. After the war, the plant started producing Reynolds’ aluminum foil.
