Security Bank of Crawford (TX) Adds New Rewards Checking Account
A year ago, Security Bank of Crawford (Security Bank) was one of the few Texas-based banks that offered Kasasa brand products statewide. That ended two months ago when Security Bank stopped offering the Kasasa Cash and Kasasa Saver accounts and added a Rewards Checking account that’s only available locally. The Rewards Checking currently earns 3.00% APY on qualifying balances up to $15k (just like the Kasasa Cash account). Qualifying balances over $15k earn 0.25% APY, with non-qualifying balances earning 0.05% APY.
The qualification cycle requirements have remained the same and include,
- At least 12 debit card purchases
- At least one ACH debit or credit transaction
- Be enrolled in and agree to receive e-Statements
The Rewards Checking account has no minimum balance requirement or monthly service fee, but does require a $50 minimum opening deposit. Nationwide ATM fees will be reimbursed up to a total of $25 each month, if qualifications are met. Unlimited check writing is available and a free Mastercard debit card will be issued following account opening. There is a limit of one account per Social Security number.
Availability
Headquartered in Crawford, Texas, Security Bank of Crawford’s market area includes the City of Crawford, Bell County, and McLennan County.
While the Kasasa brand products were offered to all Texas residents through an online application, opening the new Rewards Checking account must be done at either of two Texas full-service branches located in Crawford and Temple.
When I wrote about the now-defunct Kasasa Cash and Kasasa Saver accounts in June 2020, I noted that as a small institution, Security Bank might decide to not offer its Kasasa Cash account on a state-wide basis if the response was overwhelming. As I anticipated, CSR wasn’t able to provide any insight as to why the Kasasa brand was dropped or why the market area for the Rewards Checking is limited.
