UnitedOne Credit Union Kasasa Cash/Saver Offers Competitive Earnings

Deal Summary: Kasasa Cash, 3.00% APY on qualifying balances up to $20k. Kasasa Saver, 0.75% APY on qualifying balances up to $50k.

Availability: Residents of four Northeast Wisconsin counties.

UnitedOne Credit Union (UnitedOne) has been offering Kasasa brand products for about a year. The Kasasa Cash’s initial 3.00% APY on qualifying balances up to $20k is still in effect. Qualifying balances over $20k earn 0.25% APY, with non-qualify balances earning 0.05% APY.

The monthly qualification requirements include,

  • At least 12 signature-based debit card purchases
  • At least one direct deposit, ACH payment, or Bill Pay transaction
  • Be enrolled in and agree to receive e-Statements

The Kasasa Cash account has no minimum balance requirement, no monthly service fee, and no minimum opening deposit. Nationwide ATM fees will be reimbursed up to a total of $25 per month ($4.99 maximum per transaction), if qualification requirements are met. Unlimited checking writing is available and a free Mastercard® debit card will be issued following account opening. There is a limit of one account per membership and may not be used for commercial purposes. A Kasasa Cash account is required to have a linked Kasasa Saver account.

Kasasa Saver

UnitedOne’s Kasasa Saver account earns 0.75% APY on qualifying balances up to $50k. Qualifying balances over $100k earn 0.25% APY, with non-qualify balances earning 0.05% APY.

Earned rewards from a Kasasa Cash/Kasasa Cash Back account are automatically transferred to the linked Kasasa Saver every month. The Kasasa Saver has no minimum balance requirement, no monthly service fee, and no minimum opening deposit. There is a limit of one account per membership.

Annual Earnings of Combined Kasasa Cash/Kasasa Saver Accounts

The potential combined annual earnings of the Kasasa Cash (3.00% APY/$20k) and the Kasasa Saver (0.75% APY/$50k) is approximately $975 (1.393% APY/$70k). It's uncommon for Kasasa accounts to have such a high combined annual earnings on a large balance.

Kasasa Cash Back

UnitedOne’s Kasasa Cash Back account earns 3.00% cash back on debit card purchases, limited to the first $400 of monthly purchases. If you are planning on maintaining a balance of less than $4,800, the Kasasa Cash Back account would probably be a better deal than the Kasasa Cash account; the maximum annual earnings for the Kasasa Cash Back account is $144 ($12 per month).

The Kasasa Brand

For those not familiar with the Kasasa brand, Kasasa Cash is a type of Reward Checking Account (RCA) developed by the Texas company, Kasasa, Ltd. According to the Kasasa website,

Kasasa: the free checking account that rewards each month for doing things you already do.

By performing certain actions valuable to your bank or credit union, like using your debit card or online banking, your institution makes more money, which they share with you in the form of rewards.

In case you were wondering, “Kasasa” is just a made-up word.

In a world where real-life people are too often taken for granted as account numbers,

Availability

Headquartered in Manitowoc, Wisconsin, UnitedOne Credit Union’s field of membership (FOM) is residency-based, with individuals who live or work in the northeast Wisconsin counties of Door, Kewaunee, Manitowoc, or Sheboygan, eligible for membership.

Immediate family members of membership-eligible individuals are also qualify for membership, regardless of where they reside.

Surprisingly, UnitedOne does not have an online application, with the exception of a loan application. In more normal times, joining UnitedOne and/or opening a Kasasa brand product could be easily done at any of six Wisconsin branches. At this time, the three Sheboygan and two of the Manitowoc branches are opened by appointment only; the Manitowoc Walmart SuperCenter branch is temporarily closed. CSR suggested contacting the Member Contact Center (920.684.0361) to open a new membership and/or a Kasasa account.

A minimum deposit of $5 in a Primary Share Savings is required to establish a UnitedOne membership.
