Utah Community Credit Union Adds Rate-Leading 12-Month Add-On CD Special
For a limited time, Utah Community Credit Union (UCCU) is offering a 12-month Add-On CD Special. In addition to a rate-leading 5.25% APY, the 12-month Add-On CD Special features unlimited additional deposits (no minimum or maximum amount) throughout the term. The minimum opening deposit is $100. The maximum allowed balance is $5 million.
APY | MIN | MAX | INSTITUTION | PRODUCT | DETAILS |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
4.00% | $100 | - | Utah Community Credit Union | 12 Month Add On CD Special | |
4.00% | $100 | - | Utah Community Credit Union | 12 Month Add-On IRA Special (Traditional, Roth) |
The 12-month Add-On CD Special is also available as an IRA Add-On CD Special (Traditional and Roth), earning the same APY with the same funding requirements and unlimited additional deposits.
As stated in the Truth-in-Savings disclosure, the Early Withdrawal Penalty reads as follows:
Terms of 12 Months or less, 90 days’ dividends.
The TIS also states,
The penalty is calculated as a forfeiture of part of the dividends that have been or would be earned on the account. It applies whether or not the dividends have been earned. In other words, if the account has not yet earned enough dividends or if the dividends have already been paid, the penalty will be deducted from the principal.
For those concerned about the possibility of falling rates, an add-on CD can provide safe harbor for funds. Here’s the best case/worst case scenario: open a 12-month Add-On CD Special with the minimum $100 deposit. If a recession does occur in the next 12 months and rates fall, you can continue to make additional deposits and be guaranteed a 5.25% APY into 2024. Should rates continue to rise, the $100 investment won’t lose much ground, as the difference between a $100 deposit in a 1-year CD earning 5.25% and one earning 7.25% is de minimis.

and placed in a cast iron bathtub, covered with a sheet of asbestos to protect it from fire.
