UPDATE 8/14/2016: Village Credit Union has added a Special Rate 9-month CD (2.00% APY).

Right now the economy is healthy and Village’s loan demand is very high…which
means we need more deposits so we can continue lending money to our members!
It’s a great problem to have!

It doesn’t get much clearer than that. Village Credit Union (Village CU) is offering a limited-time Special Rate 13-month CD that requires new money. (New money, in this instance, is defined as not on deposit in “a current Village investment.” A minimum deposit of $5k will earn 1.40% APY, with a $10k minimum deposit earning 1.50% APY.

UPDATE - In addition to the 13-month CD being offered to help to “Fill Our Pool,” Village CU has just added a Special Rate 9-month CD (2.00% APY). The minimum deposit is $25k of new money. It sounds as if Village CU is real need of deposits, thanks to a healthy local economy. Nice.

According to CSR, the Early Withdrawal Penalty is “forfeiture of all interest earned on the amount being withdrawn.”

Headquartered in Des Moines, Village Credit Union’s field of membership (FOM) includes individuals who live or work in the central Iowa counties of Boone, Dallas, Jasper, Madison, Marion, Polk, Story, or Warren.

Village Credit Union is a small credit union in downtown Des Moines. Of the credit unions I have joined in person, this took the shortest amount of time to join and open CDs, in person. The first visit was less than a half hour, opening subsequent CDs took less than 10 minutes. Remarkably quick compared with several other local credit unions.
