5.25% 10-Month / 5.15% 5-Month CD at NASA FCU (Open to All)

NASA Federal Credit Union
NASA Federal Credit Union has bumped up the rates on its certificate specials for November. The new specials include a 5.25% APY 10-month certificate with a $5,000 minimum and a 5.15% APY 5-month certificate with a $1,000 minimum. These are also available as an IRA certificate.

This replaces the old special of a 5.10% 8-month CD. It's nice to see a place where CD rates have gone up. However, it's well below the rates they were offering earlier in the year. For example, in July they were offering a 5.65% 7-month CD.

A reader mentioned that NASA FCU did a hard credit pull via Equifax (which will slightly ding your credit score) when she opened an account. She also experienced problems with opening a CD due to troubles NASA FCU had in funding the CD via an ACH transfer. She wasn't able to get much help via their e-messaging system. She was able to resolve the issue by phone, but it took 30 minutes on hold to reach a service rep.

In addition to many select employee groups, the credit union's field of membership includes several associations in which anyone can join. The National Space Society is one. The general membership cost is $20. Membership application for the credit union can be done online or can be printed and mailed. A $5 minimum deposit to your savings account is required for membership.

Branches are located in Maryland, Washington, DC and Virginia. The credit union is federally insured by the NCUA (Charter # 6328). It has $853.8 million in assets and 68,467 members.

Thanks to the reader who mentioned this new CD special
