Complex Community Fed Credit Union 60-Month CD Is Still A Rate Leader

POSTED ON BY

Deal Summary: 60-Month CD, 2.10% APY, $500 minimum deposit

Availability: 13 West Texas counties

Complex Community Federal Credit Union’s (CCFCU) 60-month CD is truly unique: it currently has the highest rate (2.10% APY) offered on any of the nearly 3,300 5-year CDs tracked by DA. What’s even more unusual is that the 2.10% APY has been in effect since 2011. The 60-month CD can be opened with a $500 minimum deposit, with no stated balance cap.

CCFCU offers additional bps on its CDs for those who belong to the Members Advantage program. Offered through BaZing, a Members Advantage subscription starts at $5.75 per month and is a benefits package that includes cell phone protection, roadside assistance, and local shopping discounts.

The 60-month CD is also offered as an IRA CD (Traditional, Roth), earning the same APY with the same deposit requirements.

As stated on the Rates page, the Early Withdrawal Penalty reads as follows:

A 90 day dividends penalty will be imposed for early principle withdrawal.

In the past, this very mild EWP didn’t apply to the 60-month CD, but according to CSR, that’s no longer the case. Should rates begin to rise significantly in the next four or five years, closing a 60-month CD wouldn’t be that financially painful. Using DA’s Early Withdrawal Penalty Calculator, you can see what the effective yields would be on a month-by-month basis. For example,

  • 1.98% APY – closed at 4 years
  • 1.93% APY – closed at 3 years
  • 1.84% APY – closed at 2 years
  • 1.76% APY – closed at 18 months
  • 1.58% APY – closed at 1 year
