Complex Community Federal Credit Union’s (CCFCU) is one of the few institutions in the nation that still offers 2%+ CD rates. Its 60-month CD currently earns 2.10% APY and can be opened with a $500 minimum deposit. CCFCU offers an additional 5 bps on its CDs for those who belong to the Members Advantage program. Offered through BaZing, a Members Advantage subscription starts at $5.75 per month and is a benefits package that includes cell phone protection, roadside assistance, and local shopping discounts.

The 60-month CD is also offered as an IRA CD (Traditional, Roth), earning the same APY with the same deposit requirements.

While the Savings Rates page states that the Early Withdrawal Penalty (EWP) is 90 days of dividends, the Rate Schedule in Truth-in-Savings disclosure states that only dividends can be withdrawn from the 60-month. The 90 days EWP applies only to the 6-month and 12-month CDs. The 60-month CD's principal cannot be invaded.

Availability

Headquartered in Odessa, Texas, Complex Community Federal Credit Union’s field of membership (FOM) is residency-based, with individuals who live, work, or worship in the Texas counties of Andrews, Crane, Ector, Gaines, Martin, Midland, Upton, Ward, or Winkler eligible to join. (FYI – the FOM is not available on CCFCU’s website; CSR provided me with the information.)

In more normal times, joining CCFCU and/or opening a CD would be done at any of the eight Texas branches located in Andrews, Big Springs, Midland (2), Monahans, and Odessa (2). Instead,

because we care about our team, our members, our community. Effective Monday, July 6th, 2020, our lobby service will be suspended. It is our goal to be a part of the solution as we all work to limit the exposure and spread of COVID-19.

CSR suggested calling the Complex Community Call Center (800.375.2168, Monday-Friday, 8:30 am to 5:30 pm) to initiate a new membership application or to begin the process of opening a CD.

Establishing a CCFCU membership requires opening a Basic Savings account with a $25 minimum deposit.

CCFCU participates in the CO-OP ATM network, giving members access to nearly 30,000 surcharge-free ATMs.

Complex Community Federal Credit Union is currently the 49th largest credit union headquartered in Texas, with more than 40,400 members and assets in excess of $582 million. Chartered in 1958, the driving force behind CCFCU was Herbert Itz, who retired from El Paso Products to start the credit union. Itz’s living room served as the first branch office, as CCFCU established itself. When Itz retired from CCFCU in 1998, he had been employed by CCFCU for nearly 40 years. Mr. Itz died last month in San Angelo, Texas.
