Cooperative Teachers Credit Union (CTCU) currently has two competitive CDs: a 3-month CD Special (1.55% APY) and 36-month CD (0.95% APY). The minimum opening deposit for either is $1k, with no stated balance cap.
|0.95%||$1k||-||Cooperative Teachers Credit Union||36 Month CD|
|0.95%||$1k||-||Cooperative Teachers Credit Union||36 Month IRA (Traditional, Roth, CESA)|
The 3-month CD Special and 36-month CD are also offered as IRA CDs (Tradition, Roth, and CESA), earning the same APYs with the same $1k minimum deposit requirement.
According to CSR, the 3-month CD Special isn’t a limited-time offering, strictly speaking: it’s been part of the product line for more than year. And the 1.55% APY has been in effect the entire time. While the CD Special does not automatically renew, CSR stated a new 3-month CD Special can be opened following maturity.
As stated in the Truth-in-Savings disclosure, the rather severe Early Withdrawal Penalty (EWP) reads as follows:
For all accounts, the amount of early withdrawal penalty for
your account is all accrued interest plus 2.50% of the principal.
CSR stated the EWP was designed to specifically discourage any withdrawals.
CTCU is also offering up to $150 in bonuses for new members. Three $50 bonuses are available and include:
- Receive $50 for opening a checking account with a debit card and direct deposit of $100 or more.
- Receive $50 for opening a personal or auto loan of $3,000 or more.
- Receive $50 for opening a term share certificate with a balance of $5,000 or more.
A CTCU savings account with eStatements must be opened with a minimum $20 deposit. The above requirement(s) must be within 45 days of becoming a member to earn the bonus(es), which will be awarded within 30 days of meeting the qualification(s).
Headquartered in Tyler, Texas, Cooperative Teachers Credit Union’s field of membership (FOM) offers virtually all U.S. citizens/resident aliens a path to membership.

The last membership requirement option on the About Us page is CTCU Foundation members. According to CSR, anyone can join the CTCU Foundation ($5 membership fee) and qualify for CTCU membership, no matter where they live. CTCU Foundation is a 501(c)(3) organization that provides,
resources to charitable, educational and civic outreach efforts that parallel our mission of financial literacy education, and directly support organizations that provide resources to the less fortunate in the communities we serve.
A minimum $20 deposit in a Share Savings account establishes a CTCU membership.
CTCU participates in the CO-OP ATM network, but not the Shared Branch network.

We were proud to award our members with bonus dividends totaling over $90,000 (with a minimum payout of $5.00) to their dividend-eligible Regular Share and Investors accounts in December! This was the eighth consecutive bonus dividend paid, totaling more than $700,000.
“The Credit Union paid its first bonus dividend in December 2013. It is becoming less frequent that Credit Unions pay bonus dividends. It is a great accomplishment for CTCU to pay a bonus dividend in addition to the above market deposit rates for our accounts.” -Tim Miller, CEO
