Coosa Pines Federal Credit Union Has Competitive Rewards Checking
Coosa Pines Federal Credit Union (Coosa Pines) unveiled its Flexible Rewards Checking account approximately one year ago. The initial 3.10% APY on qualifying balances up to $20k is still in effect. Qualifying balances above $20k earn 0.10% APY, with non-qualifying balances not earning any interest.
The qualification requirements include,
- At least 15 debit card debit purchases.
- At least one direct deposit.
- At least two ACH payments.
- Be enrolled in and receive eStatements.
The Flexible Rewards Checking has no monthly service fee, minimum balance requirement, or minimum opening deposit amount. Unlimited check writing is available, with one free box of checks provided each year. Unlimited ATM fees up to $15 per month are reimbursed, if the qualifying requirements are met. The Flexible Rewards Checking is only available as a personal account and is limited to one account per Social Security number.
Excess Share Insurance
In addition to NCUA insurance, Coosa Pines offers Excess Share Insurance.
Certificates insured up to $250,000 by the NCUA. An additional $250,000 worth of insurance is provided by the Excess Share Insurance Corporation, a private insurance company, for a total coverage, paid on $1,000 minimum balance.
Availability
Headquartered in Childersburg, Alabama, Coosa Pines Federal Credit Union’s field of membership (FOM) is primarily residency-based, with individuals who live, work, worship, or attend school in the Alabama counties of Clay, Coosa, Jefferson, Shelby, St. Clair, or Talladega eligible to join.
Immediate family members and household members of current Coosa Pines members also qualify for membership, regardless of where they live. “Immediate family members” are defined as spouse, child, sibling, parent, grandparent, or grandchild, including step- and adoptive relationships.
Joining Coosa Pines and/or opening a Flexible Rewards Checking account can be done online, or at any of the five Alabama branches located in Chelsea, Childersburg, Pell City, Sylacauga, and Vincent. All branch lobbies are currently open to walk-in traffic.
Joining the credit union requires an opening deposit of $5.00 minimum to a share/savings account.
Coosa Pines participates in the CO-OP Shared Branch network, but not the ATM network.

Coosa Pines Federal Credit Union was founded in 1950 by a group of Coosa Pines Paper Mill employees. For 53 years, the FOM was exclusive to the Mill’s employees. In 2003, a community charter was adopted to include five Alabama counties, with a sixth county added in 2010. Currently Alabama’s 20th largest credit, Coosa Pines has more than 23,000 members and assets in excess of $283 million.
