Last week, Maryland-based Market USA Federal Credit Union (Market USA) raised the rate on its 60-month CD (2.41% Preferred APY). The minimum opening deposit is $500 and there is no balance cap.
The Preferred APY includes a 0.35% premium; eligibility for the 0.35% premium requires having Direct Deposits and receiving e-Statements. The APY will decrease by 0.35% if the direct deposits or e-statements are discontinued at any time during the term of the CD.
As stated in Market USA’s Terms and Conditions document, the Early Withdrawal Penalty reads as follows:
For certificates with terms of more than one year, the penalty is the loss of 180 days dividends.
VIP Checking Platinum
Market USA also has a VIP Checking Platinum Tier account that earns 2.00% APY on qualifying balances up to $15K. The 2.00% APY has been in effect for almost four years. There is no minimum balance requirement, no monthly maintenance fee or per check charge.

The monthly qualification requirements are:
- At least $250 in direct deposits
- At least 12 debit card purchases
- At least three bill payments
- Be enrolled in Internet Banking and eStatements

Residency: Residents of North and South Carolina, Virginia, Tennessee and Georgia are eligible to join Market USA through the Carolina Chapter of the American Consumer Council (ACC), and residents of Maryland, Washington D.C., Virginia, West Virginia and Pennsylvania are eligible to join through the Maryland ACC Chapter.

The application can be returned by mail or by visiting any of the three branch locations in Laurel and Landover, Maryland, and Greenville, South Carolina.
Opening a CD or VIP Checking account requires an in-person visit for new members, while current members can use Market USA’s Internet Banking platform to open additional accounts.
