Top 15-Month Special CD Rate at US Century Bank in South Florida - Local Only

US Century Bank is having a CD special with some good short-term CD deals. The best deal is a 1.60% APY 15-month CD. You can get an extra 10 basis for a 1.70% APY with a checking account and direct deposit. Two other specials include a 1.30% APY 9-month CD and a 1.35% APY 13-month CD. There are no rate bumps on these for a checking account. Minimum deposit for all three CDs is $500. These specials don't seem to be listed on the bank's website. A reader emailed me news about them, and I just called two branches this morning for more details. The rates are valid for 1/25/2011, but they are subject to change at anytime.

A branch visit is required to open an account. Branches are located in several South Florida cities including Miami, Hollywood, Coral Gables and Hialeah.

As compared to internet banks on 1/25/2011, the best 1-year CD rate is 1.36% APY at Bank of Internet USA and the best 18-month CD rate is 1.50% APY at CNB Bank Direct. For credit unions with easy membership, the best 1-year CD rate is 1.75% APY at Connexus Credit Union (active checking required) and the best 18-month CD rate is 1.50% APY at Alliant Credit Union.

4.75% 3-Month CD at US Century Bank in South Florida

US Century Bank is offering a special 4.75% APY 90-day CD. The minimum deposit is $500, and there is no maximum deposit. It doesn't seem to be listed at the bank's website. A reader mentioned seeing it advertised in the Miami Herald. I just called for additional details. According to the CSR, it doesn't have any other requirements like a checking account. It's scheduled to last through October 31, 2008.

My last post on this bank was in May when it was offering a 4% savings account.

4.00% Savings Account Guaranteed Until Jan 2009 at a Florida Bank (US Century)

US Century Bank has a nice savings account promotion in which they'll guarantee 4.00% APY for any balances through January 1, 2009. The minimum opening balance is $500. You have to open either their Century Gold Savings or a Century Gold Money Market Account.

In the small print it states that the promotional offer is only available to new accounts and new balances opened after May 19th. There is a maintenance fee of $10 per month if the balance falls below $500. The accounts have the typical savings account withdrawal limit...
