Banking in the Topeka Area

Topeka is a city in northeast Kansas. The state's capital city, it has a population of about 125,000 people. The wider Topeka metropolitan area has about 230,000 people, and notable cities in the area include Manhattan, Emporia, Junction City, Clay Center, Marysville, Burlington, Concordia, Holton, and Seneca.

Because it is the state capital, Topeka's largest industry is government, but it does have a rather diverse economy, with healthcare, education, finance and insurance all playing strong roles.

Topeka has a large banking industry for a city of its size. It and its surrounding cities are home to the headquarters of 59 banks and 17 credit unions. Notable institutions with headquarters in and around Topeka include Capitol Federal Savings Bank, KS StateBank, CoreFirst Bank & Trust, Central National Bank, and Landmark National Bank. The oldest institution still operating in the area is Kaw Valley Bank, which was established 1870. Including institutions headquartered elsewhere that have operations in the area, the Topeka region has more than 85 banks and 20 credit unions with a total of approximately 280 branches.
