Banking in the Wichita Area

Wichita is a city in south-central Kansas. With a population of about 380.000 people, it is the largest city in Kansas. The Wichita metropolitan area has more than 650,000 people. Notable cities in the region include Hutchinson, Salina, Hays, Derby, Great Bend, McPherson, Newton, Dodge City, and Garden City.

Wichita is known as the "Air Capital of the World" because of the prevalence of aircraft manufacturing companies in the city. Wichita is also the home to Koch Industries, one of the largest privately held companies in the world. Thanks to its relative isolation and its large industrial economy, Wichita has a very large banking industry for a city of its size.

There are 150 banks and 54 credit unions with headquarters in Wichita or one of the surrounding cities. Notable institutions based in the area include InTrust Bank, Fidelity Bank, Sunflower Bank, N.A., Emprise Bank, and Equity Bank.
